Fuel Trailer FAQs

A fuel trailer brings fuel to equipment so you can refuel closer to where the work happens. Diesel models are commonly used for tractors, agricultural machinery and other diesel-powered equipment, within the trailer's approved intended use.

Add up the fuel your equipment uses between refills and choose a capacity that fits your operation. Also account for the weight of the fuel, trailer and installed equipment when checking towing capacity and GVWR.

Only use fuels approved by the tank, pump and trailer manufacturer. Boss diesel fuel trailers are designed for diesel, so don't assume they can carry gasoline. Gasoline requires equipment specifically approved for that fuel.

A multi-tank trailer uses separate smaller tanks instead of one large bulk tank. Some Boss models use individual 110-gallon tanks. Follow the manufacturer's filling and valve instructions, and confirm the requirements for your exact configuration and operation.

A farm-use model is designed for agricultural applications and may not be suitable for general commercial fuel transport. Confirm the manufacturer's restrictions and the transportation requirements that apply to your route and use before choosing a trailer.

Requirements depend on the fuel, tank configuration, vehicle ratings and how the trailer is used. A no-hazmat model label isn't a blanket exemption for every operation. Confirm the exact setup with your state transportation authority before hauling fuel on public roads.

Pump options vary by model and may use a 12-volt battery or an engine-driven system. Compare flow rate, hose length, filtration and charging options. Follow the pump manufacturer's instructions and confirm which equipment is included with the trailer.

Inspect tanks, hoses, fittings, valves and pump equipment for leaks or damage, along with tires, lights, brakes and hitch connections. Keep fill openings and vents clear, allow room for fuel expansion, and follow the manufacturer's fueling and maintenance instructions.
